Ampler revolutionizes the market with an e-bike that uses a universal USB-C charger (Instagram @amplerbikes)
The Estonian brand Ampler has just launched two urban e-bikes, the Nova and Nova Pro, which feature a convenient innovation: charging via USB-C, the same standard used in laptops and smartphones.
With a 48V 336Wh battery, they can be fully recharged in about three hours using a 140W charger. This eliminates the need for proprietary adapters, making charging more practical, as USB-C chargers are easily found everywhere.
Designed for everyday use, these e-bikes have 250W motors and are limited to a speed of 25 km/h, prioritizing efficiency over high performance. The Pro version also includes a Gates carbon belt, which requires less maintenance. The USB-C port is bidirectional, allowing devices like phones to be charged directly from the bike, albeit at a reduced speed (15W).
With pre-sales open in Europe and deliveries starting in June, Ampler’s initiative reflects a trend: technological simplification. As more devices adopt USB-C, e-bikes are following the same path, reducing the need for exclusive cables.
